Reflections

Reflections on loving God, loving neighbor, and even ourselves.

Deep Roots - Nature’s Fruits

FALL 2025, AUSABLE INSTITUTE, MANCELONA, MI

Hosted by Walking, Loving, Doing*

You are invited to join us for a 2.5 day retreat for social activists who want to connect their spirituality with their social action. The primary speaker will be Wes Granberg-Michaelson who will lead us in exploring this theme and the teachings of St. Francis, Thomas Merton, and Richard Rohr. Wes has lived out a life of action from a faith perspective as an aide to Senator Mark Hatfield, Director of Church and Society for the World Council of Churches, and 17 for years as General Secretary of the Reformed Church in America.

The format will be reflective, experiential, communal, and liturgical. While there will be some “talks” it will not be a series of sermons or lectures. We want to learn from the collective wisdom and experiences of the group that gathers. We will begin on Sunday evening with dinner and wrap up with lunch on Wednesday. We will be planning the details of the event during the coming months and plan to have a complete schedule by the end of the year. While many of the participants invited come from a Christian perspective we want to include those from other, or no, religious perspective. The focus will be on spirituality, not religion.
